About Sierra Expeditionary Learning School: Sierra Expeditionary Learning School (SELS) is an independent public charter school that opened August 25th, 2010 with 64 students in grades K through 5th and will grow to serve approximately 132 K through 8th grade students over the next two years. SELS offers a small school environment dedicated to academic excellence, diversity and the building of character and community. As an Expeditionary Learning School, we strive to organize our curriculum around interdisciplinary learning expeditions. Collaboration, cooperation, and teamwork are integral components of our school. Through ongoing professional development, SELS staff members are supported in engaging, active pedagogy practices. Job Description: The Spanish Language Instructor will be responsible for developing and implementing creative, dynamic Spanish Language lessons appropriate for grade ranges K/1, 2/3 and 4/5. These lessons will focus primarily on communication for the younger grades, with reading, writing, grammar, and other aspects of written and verbal expression of the Spanish language included for the older grades.

The Spanish Language Instructor will dedicate approximately four instructional hours and one preparatory hour to the SELS Spanish program per week. Classes will be held either 2 or 3 times weekly between the hours of 12:40 and 2:40 pm.

Must have the ability to:

  • Plan and implement differentiated Spanish instruction dependent upon grade range and individual's level of Spanish.
  • Communicate effectively, in English and Spanish, orally and in writing using patience, respect, and self confidence.
  • Integrate grade range Learning Expedition themes and SELS Character Traits when possible and appropriate.
  • Work confidently and knowledgeably with diverse ages, cultures, and populations.

Preferred Experience: Three years teaching Spanish to young children.
