Expedition Express
We have jumped in with both feet learning more about the Transcontinental Railroad this week. Students continue to learn how to read non-fiction text in a fun format: Comic book. This is an easy way to introduce non-fiction material to students that is written in a narrative story format. They are soaking up the information like sponges.
Questions of the week: Why didn’t Theodore “Crazy” Judah see his dream become a reality? How many miles of track did the Central Pacific Railroad complete in one year? How many miles of track did the Railroad need to complete before the U.S. government would begin to pay? How many workers quit after working on the railroad for a year? Who did they hire after all those railroad workers quit?
You’ll be amazed at how much these kids have learned so far in this expedition.
