Hi all,
I hope everyone is enjoying our pleasant weather. I want to relay some recent changes in our school program:
-
As of Monday, Oct 10, we will be receiving hot lunches for our students. The cost remains the same ($3.25, or $0 for Free/Reduced students) and are available to all. We will, however, need to pre-order, so will be collecting orders on Fridays for the following week. Sack lunches will no longer be available except for special orders, like field work trips. Families will be invoiced monthly for any paid lunches they ordered. The menu for each month can be found at www.ttusd.org (search for menu and look at Truckee High School) and I will get it posted on our website as soon as possible.
-
Our Kindergarten crew is adding a new teacher in a job-share position. Elizabeth Bell will be in the classroom Mon-Wed and Dana Seaborg will take over Thur-Fri. Ms. Seaborg has been at SELS since the start of this academic year and is currently our English Language Development Coordinator. She will continue in this role and brings to the Kinder room many years of experience teaching in Parks and Recreation programs, including 3 years as a Kindergarten Coordinator; she spent 1 year at Truckee Elementary student teaching, substituting, and literacy intervention instruction, and most recently returned from a year of teaching 2nd grade in Costa Rica where she learned effective and interactive strategies to help English Learners excel in Language Arts. As a Truckee native, she is very excited to be part of the Kinder Crew and we believe her energy, passion, and experience will enhance the learning program for those students.
-
Due to other personnel changes (Ms. Seaborg above and Denise Strecker focusing on reading intervention), we have hired Heidi Andresen to teach 2nd and 4th grade math. Ms. Andresen has been observing and teaching the math classes this past week and will transition in later this week and early next week. As a newer teacher, Ms. Andersen brings excitement and fresh ideas to our program. Please welcome her to our Crew.
Reminders / Events:
-
Next Wednesday, Oct 12 is a Minimum Day: K-5 are released at 1 pm and 6th graders at 11:45 am. Busing is available to all so there will be no Kinder after-school program.
-
We would love to see you at Coffee House and Community Meetings on Fridays, starting at 8:45 am; Community Meetings are from 9:15-9:45.
-
As the weather changes, please remember to have your children properly dressed. Between lunch, recess, and PE, they still spend ample time outside.
-
Please make sure your student arrives at school with enough time to get to class. Elementary student should be dropped off no later than 9:10 and 6th graders no later than 7:25. If you are late, you must sign your student in on the clipboard in the office.

Sunday, Oct 9 from 9-5 at SELS, we are having a Board of Director’s retreat. School-related topics will be discussed and envisioned. All are welcome to attend for some or all of the retreat.
-
Grants Committee meeting Friday, Oct 14th from 12:15-1:15 at SELS. All are welcome.
