Building Blocks (Expedition News)

The Bell Crew had a wonderful Adventure Hike last week!  The fall weather was glorious, and the kindergartners were thrilled to be out in the field using some of their newly-honed “good-crew-member” skills.  Our day focused on teamwork and trust-building activities.  Kindergartners worked together seamlessly in small groups to find items on the scavenger hunt list.  Next, they participated in a series of group activities meant to challenge them to take risks and to trust fellow crew-mates.  “Barnyard Animals” and “Who’s the Leader?” brought on peals of laughter and excitement, while the blindfolded trust walk required more focused attention and teamwork.  It was wonderful to see each of your kindergartners able to demonstrate a heightened level of responsibility and trust.  Thank you to our wonderful volunteers–Lisa, Crescent, Maria, Mark, Jen, Kerri, Stacey, Jacquline, Anna and Jamie.  We could not have done it without your enthusiasm and support!  Be sure to look at our new photos in the gallery!

Kindergarten Nuts and Bolts

Job Share Update:  Dana/Ms. Seaborg will begin teaching Kindergarten this Thursday and Friday.  We will job-share for the remainder of the year.  Elizabeth will teach Mondays-Wednesdays, and Dana will teach Thursdays and Fridays.  Please be sure to include both of us on any correspondence to ensure excellent communication between us all.  Dana can be reached via email at: dseaborg@truckeecharterschool.org.  Please do not hesitate to contact us with any concerns or questions.

Hot Lunch Program:  SELS is now offering hot lunches!!!  Hooray to our District for providing our students with this healthy option!  You may access a food menu on the TTUSD website at www.ttusd.org.  Click on the food menu link and choose any elementary school for a menu.  The cost for lunches is $3.25 for elementary students; meals include milk.  It has been difficult for kindergartners to remember to sign-up on Fridays for the next week.  As a result, here is how lunch orders will go for KG from this point on:

  • Put your child’s name on his/her lunch calendar.
  • Circle all days your child would like hot lunch for the month.
  • Send in the calendar ASAP–do not wait for Red Folder day.
  • Dana and Elizabeth will place orders on Friday for the following week. (If a child’s calendar is not given to us, or the day is not circled, that child may not have school lunch on the given day.  There will be no extra food, nor can you place orders the day before.)
  • Ask Elizabeth/Dana if you have any questions. 🙂

Conferences:  Next week is conference week.  Your kindergartner should attend!!   We look forward to sitting down with you and your child to set specific goals for the year.  The KG conference schedule will be sent home this week.  Please double-check your time.  Also, please complete the goal-setting form and bring it with you to the conference.  Remember that next week we dismiss each day at 1pm.  There is no after-school care.

Community Meetings:  The KG will participate in Community Meetings beginning this Friday, Oct. 21st.  Please join us for the all-school fun! 🙂

Buddy Time:  Last week was the start of Buddy Time.  Our 5th grade buddies came to KG to read stories and participate in Choice Time.  The children had a wonderful time getting to know their buddies.  It was a special time for all involved!  We will meet with our buddies on Minimum Day each month.  In addition, the 5th grade buddies will escort your kindergartners to our first Community Meeting this Friday, October 21st.

Harvest of the Month:  Last Wednesday, October 12, was our first Harvest of the Month tasting.  HOM is an opportunity for your child to try new foods/recipes and to learn about the fresh fruits and vegetables available in our region.  This month, students tasted–and LOVED– the fresh PEARS.
Thank you, Tina and Jacquline, for your work on this!
