Chatauqua Presentations:  Our Living History Museum displaying the people of the Central Pacific Railroad is coming along as planned.  Students have chosen a specific person in railroad history and recently completed a Historical Fiction Narrative telling the story of that person.  The students will perform their narratives in a Chatauqua format where they will act as statues inside a museum waiting for someone to press their “button” to hear their story.  Historical figures from the beginning of the railroad to the end will be represented.  Come watch our crew in action on Thursday, December 15th, during SELS Celebration of Learning.  Performances will begin at 6:20, 6:40, and 7:00 pm.

Experts in the Classroom:  Last week we had a young Chatauqua performance by a 4th grade student presenting Shel Silverstein.  Students were able to observe first hand the time and effort needed to present a quality product.  I believe the Welch Crew is up for the challenge and welcomes many to come watch their own performances.  Also, noted historian Mark McLaughlin will be visiting our class on Tuesday, December 6th to continue looking at the economic impacts of the railroad on Truckee.

Truckee Donner Senior Center:  Last week we continued our annual tradition to visit the Truckee Donner Senior Center and spend time with our cross generational buddies.  Students enjoyed games with snacks and beverages as they spent time with the local seniors.  The Welch Crew will return next week to visit our senior buddies and sing Holiday Carols and decorate cookies with the group.

Nevada County Library:  We will be heading to the Nevaday County Library on Wednesday, December 7th.  Students will be checking out books to read over the winter break, but the books will be due back to the library on December 28th.  This is during our winter break, so please make a note to return the books during this time period.

Harvest of the Month:  December is an “off” month for Harvest of the Month, but our wonderful classroom volunteers, Dana Mudd and Amber DeFazio, have decided to host a Harvest of the Month in December with persimmons.  Students will get a chance to experience a new dish with these tasty fruits on Thursday, December 8th.
