Sierra Nevada Journeys: We have had 2 wonderful experiences with Joanna from Sierra Nevada Journeys in our crew. Last week she introduced the students to Potential and Kinetic Energy. She gave kids that chance to experience through different activities these two types of energy. This week, students were given the chance to learn where Energy Comes From in our environment. Having experts in the field come into the classroom to teach the students gives them a fresh approach to learning difficult concepts.

Question of the Week: What is Potential and Kinetic Energy? Give an example of each form of energy and how this energy changes from one to another.

Call out for INFORMATION: Does anyone have information on the Altamont Wind Farm near Livermore, CA? I would love a contact number for more information.

Literacy Day in the Classroom: This FRIDAY, MARCH 16, SELS is celebrating LITERACY MONTH by inviting parents into the classrooms to participate in Literacy Activities with your child. If you have a favorite childhood book that you would like to read to a small group of children, let me know this week and I will schedule you on Friday. The Literacy Block will begin immediately following our school wide Community Meeting. Your kids will love having you in the classroom to share a story with them on Friday morning. Bring your favorite children’s book, settle in, and enjoy time with the Welch Crew.

Goal Setting Conferences: On March 28 and 29th, SELS will be revisiting our Goals set in the Fall during Goal Setting Conferences. Please sign-up on the conference schedule located on the classroom door or Google Docs. Next week you will receive a copy of your child’s goals, reflect with them on their progress towards their goals, and come up with next steps. These conferences are scheduled for 20 minutes and we will be adhering to the posted schedule. Please make every effort to arrive on time for the conference.

Student Council: A couple of weeks ago, our crew elected Juan Delgadillo and Martin Gomez to represent them in student council as our Crew Leaders. Congratulations to Juan and Martin.
