Hi all,

  • Last week I mentioned that one of our students (2nd grader Haley Flaherty) won 1st place in Barbara Boxer’s Earth Day Poster Contest. You can now view her poster on Boxer’s website: http://boxer.senate.gov/en/press/photos/041712.cfm

  • This warm weather is a reminder to make sure your child has a water bottle at school every day, and gives you all a chance to revisit the dress code. Remember, students are not allowed to wear flip flops, spaghetti tops, or “short” shorts – please see the handbook for more details. Also, check the changes in weather; possible cold rain/snow on Thurs so please have your child dressed appropriately.

  • With the (hopefully) closing of winter, our lost and found is still overflowing with cold weather clothes. Please take a look as what’s left will be donated on Friday afternoon.

  • Next week Wed-Fri, several of us will be in Denver at Expeditionary Learning’s National Conference. Mr Krusi-Thom, Ms McMains, and I will be learning and hopefully finding some great ideas to bring back to SELS. Mr Krusi-Thom is also presenting on “Maximizing the Effectiveness of the Instructional Guide”.

  • The Brisbin Crew is in their final fundraising push to raise money for their June trip to Yosemite. Please help by purchasing Chico Bags. I sent out detailed information on Thurs, April 19, or you can contact Ursula Riina at dirigolife@hotmail or 530-448-9147.

  • Script “no cost fundraising” is up and running. This program provides SELS funds as a percent of gift cards purchased by our community. Please see the attachment for more details.

  • The town is talking about building a Class I bicycle/multi-use trail connecting Tahoe Donner and downtown Truckee. One of our parents has composed a letter which, if you are so inclined, you can use to show support for this project. Please copy and paste the following note (signing your own name) and send to info@tahoedonner.com and Truckee@townoftruckee.com.

    Hi,

I’m writing to voice my support of the Tahoe Donner paved Class I bicycle/multi-use trail as I believe it will be a vital link between the largest population center of Truckee (Tahoe Donner) and the commercial/education/etc. center of Truckee (Old Town/rest of Truckee) and as such will add value for all stakeholders in the Tahoe Donner and broader Truckee community.  This includes all use groups for the trail (walkers, joggers, cyclists, etc.) — kids, full-time residents, part-time residents, and VISITORS  —  linking all groups to BUSINESSES and SCHOOLS in a way that represents the values of Tahoe Donner and the broader Truckee community – non-motorized transportation options, enjoyment of our spectacular natural environment, and community involvement and connectedness.

Thank you for the progress that you’ve made to date. I look forward to toasting the current TD Board and Town of Truckee leadership on making further progress with funding and building the trail. You will be realizing a lasting and meaningful contribution for your constituents!

Best,

Megan Scott
Tahoe Donner resident and mother of two bike riders, anxious to ride to town/school!
