Hi all,

Hope everyone is enjoying what may be our final stellar week of warmth. Its been a nice long run since April.

A few things to share this week:

  • We are starting our second block of electives on Friday. Looking forward to some new activities and parent volunteers.

  • REMINDER: Next week is Minimum Week and Goal Setting Conferences – make sure you have signed up to visit with your teacher. All week, Middle Schoolers are released at 11:45 and Elementary students at 1.

  • Ms Rubi needs help! She is preparing students to participate in the Dia de los Muertos celebration at the downtown Community Center on Nov 8. Last year this was a huge success. Ms Rubi is looking for volunteers to help the students decorate their alters while she helps them practice for their performances. Please come in Mondays and/or Thursdays to help. Contact her directly for the best times: rsanchez@truckeecharterschool.org

  • Lost and Found is overflowing. Please stop in and pick up lost clothing and water bottles. I will be donating what remains on Friday afternoon.

  • The Measure A committee meets the second Tuesday of most months from 3:30-5, alternating between Truckee and North Tahoe High Schools. We are looking for a parent to attend these with me to act as our school representative. Carolyn Gallagher has been our representative, and would like to continue, but is unable to make all the meetings. Please contact me directly if interested.

No cost fundraising: these efforts raise several thousand dollars per year for SELS and cost you nothing but a little time. Please read about ways in which you can help:

  • eScrip: October is our annual drive to renew our eScrip members and to enlist more participants in this no-cost fundraising program. Once you register your existing Safeway Club card (as well as loyalty cards from other participating merchants) and identify Sierra Expeditionary Learning School as your beneficiary, a percentage of every dollar spent at Safeway (and other participating stores) is automatically allocated to our school at checkout when you use your club card. Sign up and renewal information will go home in student folders next week. Please designate SELS as your beneficiary and ask friends and family if they will participate as well. Thank you!

  • BoxTops: Collect these from participating products and drop off in the small tupperware container in the Library. The first submission deadline is Oct 29 – please have your collection in by then.

Bear Walk : The 3rd Annual Bear Walk (SELS walk-a-thon) is Wednesday, October 31st from 10am-11:30am. Students will integrate the SIERRA norms as they walk around the track and encourage one another while raising money for their classrooms. Students may wear costumes, but as this is an all-school event, no gory, scary, or risqué costumes allowed. Pledge forms and parental volunteer sign ups will go home in folders next week.

Thanks again for all your efforts to help our school and community.

David
