Expedition News
Service learning- Fire Escape Plan: This month’s design principle is Service and Compassion. As a crew service-learning project, all students are expected to design and create a family fire escape plan for their home. An informational checklist is located in this week’s yellow folder. You are not expected to do all of it! Do what works for your family. Enjoy reading about the historic Truckee fires that are also included!
Interviews: Next week the Seaborg and Welch crews are heading out into the Truckee community to interview people about why they visit or have settled in Truckee. We will be walking to various locations (Wild Cherries, Mt. Hardware and Safeway) gathering data to support our long term learning targets.
Downtown Truckee Photo Day (Tues. 11/27/12): Continuing to work on our final product, we will be heading back downtown to take photos of historical buildings in modern times. Although close, we will need parent drivers and chaperones to accompany the students.
Questions of the Week:
What are some main interviewing skills that you will need on fieldwork next week? (Ex: Introduce yourself/ Good eye contact/ Follow –up questions)
What do service and compassion mean to you? What does it look like?
Crew News
Lula Washington Dance Theatre: Our crew, along with other SELS crews, had the opportunity to see the Lula Washington at the Cal Neva today. The African-American dance theatre put on an engaging, energetic and historic performance that everyone really enjoyed. These culturally based programs are brought to Truckee through the Arts for the Schools organization in an effort to give students exposure to the performing arts. Please be sure to ask your child about details!
Practicing photo shoots: At school, your children are continuing to master their photography skills. They are using the school campus to practice capturing specific angles and distances.
Nevada County Library: We are rescheduled to go to the library next Wednesday, 11/14. We will rotate library visits with the Welch Crew, roughly every 3 weeks, usually on Thursdays. Parents are welcome to join, just let me know.
Still missing a few library cards! Would love for everyone to be able to check books out.
SELS News
Bear Walk: Last week we had a successful walk-a-thon and our crew worked hard to make as many laps as possible! All Bear Walk money is due this week. This money will be used in our classroom to support our expeditions through the end of the year.
