Expedition Express

FIRE and ICE:

FINAL PRODUCT:  The Welch and Seaborg crews have completed the photography leading up to our final product.  The students are now compiling their notes and researching their historic Turckee building and will be formatting the photo book soon.

Question of the Week:  What are some interesting facts you have learned about your historic building in Truckee from you research in class?

ROOT BEER Project:  On Friday, both 2/3 crews will be making Root Beer from scratch, as a spin off of our fieldwork to Boca townsite by recreating the importance of the Boca Brewery in the early years of the Truckee area.  Students have been designing labels for their Blue Bear Root Beer with Ms. Lobo in Art for the past few weeks.

3D Models:  In the next two weeks, students will be creating 3D models to help meet our Learning Target for our 2nd Case Study:  I can explain how local resources and climate shaped Truckee.

THANK YOU to our parents that make our fieldwork possible.  Maria Leftwich, Jared Stein, Carolyn Gallagher, Forrest Rader, and Alison Schwedner helped transport students and keep their groups focused on the task at hand.  We couldn’t do this without you.

CREW NEWS

Holiday Book Orders:    The Scholastic Book Orders came home today in your child’s Yellow Folder.  This will be the last chance to order books for your child’s holiday gifts.  If you do order books as a gift, let me know and I will hold these books aside and give them to you on the evening of Celebration of Learning, December 20th.  Also, online book orders will earn you a free book on a future order and a free book for the classroom.  Everyone is a winner!

Harvest of the Month:  Our December tasting last week was Bell Peppers.  The students were given the challenge to list as many adjectives as they could think of to describe Bell Peppers.  Thank you to Dana Mudd for making this exciting tasting program fun and delicious.

Nevada County Library:  This Thursday, December 6, our crew will be walking to the Nevada County Library.  Please be sure to have your child bring their library books to school in order to return them on time and avoid a late fee.
