Crew Update 1-23-13,
Believe it or not we are half way through the school year! The first semester came to a close last Friday and we are on our way to the end of the year. We have had a productive two weeks since the holidays came to a close. Progress reports will be sent home on Tuesday January 29th. They will be sent home in sealed envelopes and should be opened when the students are in the company of their parents. With the report cards will be an insert for their Spanish grades and an insert describing what the grading scale means.
As many of you know, we have had the privilege of having a couple of guest speakers in our class over the last few months. Mike Staudenmayer gave us a riveting presentation on topography last year, allowing the students a deeper insight into surveying. Kevin Bumen visited our crew for a second time this year to share his expertise in maps and cartography and how they are implemented at the Truckee Airport. I would like to extend a huge thank you to both Mike and Kevin for taking time out of their busy days to enlighten our crew. If you or someone you know has experience in a subject that we are studying, we would be honored to have you join our crew for an afternoon. On the same subject, if you are interested in teaching a Friday elective we are in need of more parents to volunteer. Williams’ crew parents have taught units about cooking, knitting and other creative activities. If you have ideas or interest please let me know.
Now that we have reached the middle of the year, we are running low on a few supplies. If you are able to contribute, we would greatly appreciate the following: loose lined paper, loose graph paper, erasers, pencils, Kleenex, and post-its.
Thank you as always for your continued contribution to our crew. If you have any questions about the progress reports or any other matters please call or email. Here’s to a productive, successful, and enjoyable second half of the school year.
Zach
