Hello B Crew!
We have had a very exciting start back to school since winter break. Our crew is impressing us once again with their hard work and eagerness to learn in our new expedition “Once Upon a Time.” The question guiding us through the expedition is “How great would it be to live in a castle?” We will see what the crew decides! We have been learning a lot about castles, people, and life in medieval times during this first cast study titled “Then and Now.” We have also started work on our research projects. The crew worked diligently to brainstorm topics, research information, and write about their topic with their research partner. The entire crew is rising to the challenge of adding details of their writing and evaluating their writing with rubrics. Hopefully they are sharing their new knowledge with you! Their work will be published in our castle walls soon! We will soon be moving into comparing and contrasting life now and life in medieval times through discussion and Venn diagrams. Later on in this expedition we will be exploring fairytales, story structure, and creating original stories.
We also had a wonderful experience going to the Joe Craven Concert. Everyone was mesmerized by the artist’s charisma and ability to create music from almost any object and sound. Thank you very much to our chaperones Kim Bradley and Carolyn Gallagher. Also, thank you to Kerri Flaherty for organizing our chaperones. Kerri has also created a google doc for volunteering during literacy time, which you can sign up for in the classroom or on google docs. She is updating the calendar classroom hard copy weekly. Thank you! Thank you!
The crew enjoyed experimenting with their taste buds with spuds:) and other edibles from underground like onion and garlic at Harvest of the Month. Jenna Shropshire provided the crew with a wide array of cooked and uncooked versions flavored with various herbs. Some students liked the homemade potato chips so much that they wrote down the recipe to take home!
We are still working hard on reading and students are progressing on a daily basis! Thank you so much for all that you do at home to support them in their growth as readers!
