STAR testing is upon us, Tues-Thurs the next two weeks. Please have your children ready to go, on time, and limit your own time on campus until lunch or after.

SELS100 Capital Campaign update: all going well – still hovering around $220,000. Those who have pledged contributions, please remember to have that into us by the end of school. Also, thanks to those who are contributing non-monetarily to the campaign (time and goods for the yard sale; participating in fundraisers, like the wine tasting and the upcoming Pianeta evening); your contributions are valuable. Students continue to show enthusiasm, like bringing in change for their Crew Jugs; additionally, Leadership spent Friday afternoon soliciting donations at Mountain Hardware and raised $115. Big thanks to TTUSD who has committed construction assistance of approximately $150,000.

Next year’s academic calendar is set. We will follow the TTUSD calendar (access at: http://www.ttusd.org/Download.asp?L=0&LMID=93490&PN=DocumentUploads&DivisionID=&DepartmentID=&SubDepartmentID=&SubP=&Act=Download&T=1&I=177902) with two notable exceptions: 1) we will have Nov 25-26 off so there is no school that week; and 2) Friday, June 13 will be our last day of school.

Other announcements / events:

  • Tomorrow, Wed May 8 is a MINIMUM DAY

  • Celebration of Learning will be on Thursday, June 6 in your child’s classroom. Generally this runs from 6-7:30 pm.

  • Passages will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 11 and 12 from 12:30-2. Passages is an EL tradition in which students changing teachers present aspects of their learning to an audience. Students in grades 1,3,6, and 7 will have 10 min or less presentations, while students in grades 5 and 8 (next year) will have 20-25 min presentations. Students will present to mixed groups of students, parents, and staff. As we get closer, teachers will let you know what day you child will present.

  • We have changed our last day of school to Thursday, June 13, the same day as the rest of TTUSD. That morning we will have an all-school closing ceremony from 9:15-10. This change is due to the lack of snow days, and thus no busing for us on Friday, June 14. ** This last day of school is a MINIMUM DAY **

  • SELS Cookbooks are still available in the Office if anyone is in need of a nice gift (like for Mother’s Day). They are $18 each; there is a sample copy in the Library.

Sup’ for SELS at Pianeta
Thursday, May 16th, 5:30pm – 9pm 
Pianeta Restaurant in downtown Truckee has agreed to donate 20% of the night’s sales back to SELS. Thank you Pianeta! We encourage you to come to dinner and bring along a friend not related to SELS. Need childcare while you dine? We are offering a Movie Night at SELS, for SELS students and siblings, ages 4 and up, from 5:30pm-7:30pm. Cost is $10 per child or $15 per family. Thanks to Miss Andresen! Reservations are highly encouraged. Call Pianeta at 587-4694 to make your reservation today.

Teacher Appreciation Week is in full swing. Huge thanks to our incredible Teachers, Director and Staff for their wonderful work and all that they bring to our crews and community! Thank you also to the awesome volunteers who are helping to make this week a success. Please take some time to fill teachers’ and staff’s buckets with notes of gratitude and kindness throughout the week. Colored bags are labeled in the library.

PTC meeting will be next Monday, May 13th, @ 5:30pm in M-2. Snacks provided and children are always welcome!

– We are looking for two middle school volunteers to help Miss Andresen supervise kids during the Movie Night on Thursday, May 16th, from 5:30pm – 7:30pm.
– We also need two volunteers to provide childcare during a Latino Info Night on Friday, May 17th, 6:30pm – 8:30pm.

Mañana, miércoles 08 de mayo es un día mínimo
Celebración de aprendizaje será el jueves 6 de junio en el salón de su hijo. Generalmente esto funciona de 6-7:30 pm.
Los pasajes serán el martes y el miércoles, 11 de junio y 12 de 12:30-2. Pasajes es una tradición en la que los estudiantes EL cambiantes maestros presentan aspectos de su aprendizaje a una audiencia. Los estudiantes en los grados 1,3,6 y 7 tendrán 10 min o menos presentaciones, mientras que los estudiantes de los grados 5 y 8 (el próximo año) tendrán presentaciones 20-25 min. Los estudiantes presentarán a los grupos mixtos de estudiantes, padres y personal. A medida que nos acercamos, los maestros le permitirá saber qué día su hijo se presente.
