Williams Crew,
I hope everyone had a fun, restful break. Hopefully, we are all ready to tackle a great new year at SELS. Here are a few updates:
Expedition: During the next month we will be studying the Meso-american tribes (Aztec, Maya, and Inca tribes), and investigating the impact of the European explorers on the local people they encountered. We will be working on this until the end of the semester on January 30.
Math: Our last math chapter of this semester is chapter 5 “Probability and solving word problems”. I am starting a new daily math reflection that I hope will help motivate students to go back and correct the problems that they missed on their homework. The math will continue to be more difficult as the year progresses. Make sure your child is understanding the concepts of each lesson, or they are finding resources (crew mates, teacher, etc.) to help them understand.
“Who am I?” : The Mentor shadowing is due by January 26 (make sure your child has the pictures and notes they took at school by then). We will begin to create a power point presentation about the experience in class on the 26th. If your child has not scheduled their shadowing experience yet, they need to do that as soon as possible.
I want to thank everyone that came to the Celebration of Learning; the students were so proud to show off their hard work. I also want to thank you for all of the generous gifts that I received. I am always taken aback by how thoughtful each of you are. Thank you for thinking of myself and my family.
Happy New Year!
