Director’s Notes                              Jan 14, 2015

Hi all,

Been a great week. Students are really focused and seem to be enjoying school. They are also healthy, which considering how this winter is turning out, is pretty fortunate. Continue to do whatever you are doing to keep them happy and healthy.

SCHOOL INFO

With the passing of Measure U, our campus and area will undergo some physical changes. Please join me for an initial SELS campus master planning meeting, Tues Jan 20 at 2:30. If you can’t make this meeting and would like to provide input, please email me your thoughts.

Lost and found piling up again; please stop in and grab your stuff. Also some remaining dishware from Gratitude Evening is in the office. Everything will be donated after Friday.

Will be posting this week an opening for a part time Reading Specialist. If interested, or know of someone interested, please check the website.

Looking to hire someone for lunch/recess duty from 11:15-12:45 everyday (though days worked is possibly negotiable) for $20/day. Responsibilities include helping with lunch service and yard duty. Must have good grasp of program and philosophies. Please stop in and talk to David if interested. Will start as soon as filled.

SCHOOL AND PUBLIC EVENTS

Positively Rolling, the middle school boys character education program associated with SELS, is holding a fundraiser (jointly, with the Auburn Ski Club) on Jan 22 from 5-10 pm at the Truckee Tavern. A portion of proceeds will go to each organization.

Backcountry Survival Expert Speaker Series, Dr. Howard Donner

Come out to a FREE Pilot and Community Speaker Series Meeting January 15, 2015 at the Truckee Tahoe

Airport District Community Room A at 6 PM. Dr. Howard Donner will explain the basics of how to survive

an unexpected night out in the woods around the Truckee Tahoe area. He will debunk survival myths

and give the audience some real world concepts and methods to stay alive until found.

WHAT TO TAKE – WHAT TO DO – HOW TO GET FOUND

Don’t miss this free speaker event for anyone how love the outdoors. Free coffee, tea, juice and snacks.

Compliments of the Truckee Tahoe Airport.

Join us for our January Middle School Social Event at Northstar on Friday January 16th to skate under the lights to the music. We will bring hot cocoa and what is needed for making s’mores around the Northstar fire pits.

Skate rentals are $10.00 at Northstar or, if you have your own skates, skating is free.

Please plan to accompany your child or arrange a carpool and parents to chaperone. Katie and Kim will be there, but won’t be able to monitor all children alone. Non-SELS friends are welcome to attend and enjoy refreshments while under your supervision. As always, we ask that all kids represent themselves and SELS with their SIERRA Norms in mind.

Free movie viewing of the movie Fed Up on Thursday 1/22/15 at 6pm in the Truckee High Auditorium. SELS is co-sponsoring it, along with the TTUSD Food Services and Wellness Program. The movie explores American diets, particularly sugar’s impact, and how these have led towards increased obesity and diabetes.

Measure U is forming aCitizens Oversight Committee and is looking for interested people. The committee’s by-laws and applications will be available online, at the District office, and at each school’s office.  Interested parties should review the committee by-laws for more information about the committee’s role and responsibilities and complete and submit an application to the Superintendent’s Office by 4:30 pm on Friday, February 6, 2015.

Hola a todos,

Ha sido una gran semana. Los estudiantes son realmente enfocado y parecen estar disfrutando de la escuela. Ellos también son saludables, que teniendo en cuenta cómo este invierno está resultando, es bastante afortunado. Continúe haciendo lo que estás haciendo para mantenerlos felices y sanos.

ESCUELA INFO
Con el paso de la Medida T, nuestro campus y el área se someterán a algunos cambios físicos. Por favor, únanse a mí para una reunión de planificación maestra campus SELS inicial, mar 20 de enero a las 2:30. Si usted no puede hacer esta reunión y quieres aportar información, por favor envíeme un correo electrónico a tus pensamientos.

Perdido y encontrado acumulando de nuevo; por favor parar y agarrar tus cosas. También algunos vajilla restante de la gratitud de la tarde está en la oficina. Todo será donado después del viernes.

A publicar esta semana una apertura para un especialista en lectura de tiempo parcial. Si está interesado, o sabe de alguien interesado, por favor consulte la página web.

¿Quiere contratar a alguien para el servicio de almuerzo / recreo de 11: 15-12: 45 todos los días (aunque días trabajados es posiblemente negociable) por $ 20 / día. Las responsabilidades incluyen ayudar con servicio de almuerzo y servicio en el patio. Debe tener buena comprensión de los programas y filosofías. Por favor, parar y hablar con David si está interesado. Se iniciará tan pronto como sea llena.

ESCUELA Y EVENTOS PÚBLICOS
Positivamente Rodando, programa de carácter educativo chicos de la escuela secundaria asociada con SELS, es la celebración de un evento para recaudar fondos (en forma conjunta, con el Ski Club Auburn), el 22 ene 5-10 pm en el Truckee Tavern. Parte de las ganancias irá a cada organización.

Película de visión libre de la película Hartos el jueves 01/22/15 a las 6 pm en el auditorio de Truckee. SELS copatrocina, junto con el Servicios de Alimentación y Bienestar Programa TTUSD. La película explora las dietas americanas, especialmente el impacto de azúcar, y cómo éstas han dado lugar a una mayor obesidad y la diabetes.

Mida U está formando un Comité de Supervisión Ciudadana y está buscando personas interesadas. Los estatutos y las aplicaciones de la comisión estarán disponibles en línea, en la oficina del distrito, y en la oficina de cada escuela. Los interesados deben revisar el comité de estatutos para obtener más información sobre el papel y las responsabilidades del comité y completar y presentar una solicitud a la Oficina del Superintendente antes de las 4:30 pm del Viernes, 06 de febrero 2015.
