New rack cards will be on display at various locations around Truckee / Tahoe outlining favorite activities for children under 10 to discover. Truckee is a great place to visit and there are many things to explore for visitors and locals alike. From hiking to swimming, skiing to snowshoeing, 2nd & 3rd grade students from Sierra Expeditionary Learning School brainstormed all of their favorite spots, voted to narrow down locations, and then worked in groups to complete the write-ups.

Their ultimate goal is to help guide visiting families to some local kid favorites. The project was inspired by an Expedition focused on Truckee history, and exemplifies the service learning taking place across SELS K-8 classrooms. These 4-5 month-long Expeditions help ground learning by including classroom lessons, field work, and professional experts. These experiences are (mostly) shaped around our local and regional communities, helping students connect learning to what’s meaningful in their lives.

Kudos to the Welch and MinBorg Crew Leaders for creating authentic platforms for writing and expression!
