Expedition Express: FIRE and ICE
Throughout the month of January, we will be wrapping up our Fire and Ice expedition with one final case study focusing on the Native American tribes that live/lived around the Tahoe/Truckee area. Students will learn about local tribes through a variety of books, activities and an afternoon with a noteable Washoe tribe member that visited SELS last year for an all school assembly.

Crew News
Tahoe Donner Cross Country Skiing – Our first day on the snow was a big success. Everyone had a great time in the bluebird conditions. As part of SELS scaffolded adventure program, we will take the students cross country skiing four half days through January and February. The students will be setting goals and reflecting on their skiing progress in a self-competitive fashion. Please send your child prepared according to the weather forecast. Math Night: Struggling to help your child with their math homework? Do you ask yourself, “What the heck are they teaching my kid in math?” Help is on the way. The ⅔ crew leaders will be hosting a Parent Math Night. Look for more info for a February evening.

Parent Highlights: Thank you to the following parents for skiing and braving the single digit temperatures with our crew on January 6: Arthur Rader, Todd Bassett, Hannah Hargrave, David Smith, and Erica Stein. This is such a great opportunity for our students to learn a life-long activity.

Student Highlights: Three cheers to the following 1st time skiers!! Kiara Espinoza, Alejandra Herrera Cervantes and Deborah Cruz Vallin. These girls showed true adventure by getting out on the snow for the first time on skis and nailed it! Way to GO! Love their positive attitudes towards challenging activities.

Expedición Express: FUEGO y hielo
Durante el mes de enero, nos va ser terminando nuestra expedición de fuego y el hielo con un estudio de caso final centrándose en las tribus nativas que viven/vivían alrededor de la zona de Tahoe/Truckee. Los estudiantes aprenderán acerca de las tribus locales a través de una variedad de libros, actividades y una tarde con un miembro de tribu de Washoe notable que visitaron SELS el año pasado para una Asamblea de escuela de todos.

Tahoe Donner Cross Country esquí- Nuestro primer día en la nieve fue un gran éxito. Todos tuvieron un gran tiempo en las condiciones del bluebird. Como parte de SELS scaffolded programa de aventura, tomamos los estudiantes esquí cuatro medios días a través de enero y febrero. Los estudiantes objetivos y reflexionar sobre su progreso esquí de una manera self-competitive. Por favor, enviar a su hijo preparado según el pronóstico del tiempo. Noche de matemáticas- ¿ Luchando para ayudar a su hijo con su tarea de matemáticas? Te preguntas, “¿que diablos son ellos enseñando a mi hijo en matemáticas?” Ayuda está en camino. Los líderes de equipo ⅔ serán el anfitrión de una noche de matemáticas para padres. Busque más información para una noche de febrero.
