Expedition Express: “Crack, bang, boom!”
We have started our expedition on weather. In case study #1: What’s with the weather?, students will answer the question: How do scientists predict weather and find patterns? We have defined what weather is and came up with a list to describe different types of weather. We are starting to observe and document daily weather and will be moving into looking at forecasts and weather patterns. Case study #2: Sunbathing or Ice-skating?, will begin mid-March. Students will answer the question: How do I forecast and prepare for future weather? Students will practice making predictions based on weather patterns. For our final project, students will take turns giving a ‘school forecast’ over the intercom at the end of each day so all SELS students know the weather that is coming and how to dress for it.

Questions to Ask Your Child:
What tools do you use to measure weather?
What observations have you made about the weather and the weather patterns?
How do you forecast and prepare for the weather?

Highlights
Thank you for the wonderful Valentine’s and gifts for our Celebration of Empathy and Caring! I felt very loved and had a huge smile on my face reading all of the valentines!

Thank you Bear Walk donations! A letter went home right before break to introduce www.raz-kids.com. We are using this app in class as one of our reading centers. This is a wonderful website that gives kids access to eBooks and eQuizzes at their ‘just right’ reading level on any mobile device. Download the app and let your child start reading at home!

Etc.
Winter is still here! Please make sure your child comes to school with boots, jackets, snow pants, gloves, hats, etc. We go outside every chance we get and I want to make sure they are warm. Bring slippers to keep here over winter. The kids can take off their wet winter boots and keep their feet toasty warm.
