Hi all,

Great end to last week when the Kindergarteners entertained the Community Meeting crowd with their presentation on bears (they just finished an expedition on the topic). They were informed, articulate, and presented well – nice job Kinders!

Laurie Martin is currently our enrichment instructor and is drumming with the students: “Health Rhythms Drum Beats, the Elements.” A performance, “Student Expressions,” is scheduled for Community Meeting on Friday, March 30 from 9:15-10:30 (we will have an abbreviated Community Mtg first).

I have posted several teaching positions on the website; if you know interested teachers, please send them there or have them call me. I also posted a position for a part-time Administrative Assistant to start in April. Please check out the listing if interested.

The Board voted last night on our middle school configuration. After several meetings and much community input, the 6th and 7th grades will operate with a “hybrid” schedule: they will be grade specific for core academics (math and expedition) and will mix for enrichment. The plan will be for 8th grade (in 2013-14) to operate similarly. Teachers will stay at grade level and not move with the students each year.

Informational meetings start in full this week. Please encourage interested community members to check dates/locations on our website. Unless currently enrolled, prospective families must attend one informational meeting to obtain an application for the lottery.

There have been questions about Transitional Kindergarten (TK). I have some answers: TTUSD will have TK classrooms at both Truckee and Glenshire Elem. Students who turn 5 in Nov of this year can only enter TK, while students who turn 5 in Sept and Oct of this year can enter either TK or regular K. SELS will only be accepting Kindergarten applications for students who turn 5 before Nov 1, 2012. If you have a child who turns 5 in Nov of this year, you may enroll him/her in SELS Kindergarten in the 2013-14 academic year.

TTUSD’s Coldstream High School program is continuing to gather community feedback about their programming. If interested in learning more or sharing ideas, they have two meetings this week: 1) Rideout, March 21 at 7 pm; and 2) Sierra High, March 22 at 7 pm.

We are getting excited for the Crab and Pasta Feed, this Saturday, March 24 from 5-9. We have received many wonderful auction items and great support from our SELS families. A couple of important pieces of information:

  • Childcare: On-site childcare will be available from 3:30 – 9:00. We will provide pizza, art and a movie. Please RSVP to Marcy at mlttruckee@yahoo.com by Friday with the names, ages and hours that your children will be at childcare. Donations are appreciated and will be used to pay the childcare providers.

  • SELS Table Theme: If you have purchased tickets for the Crab Feed, please join us at the SELS table. Our table theme will be California Pride (sports teams, California bear, flag, etc.) We will have table cloths. Feel free to bring your own table setting, wine/beer and anything to contribute to our group decoration.
