CONGRATULATIONS HALEY FLAHERTY!!!

As part of our Spring Expedition, our crew entered a statewide poster contest through Senator Barbara Boxer’s office as a celebration of EARTH DAY.  I am thrilled to announce that Haley Flaherty won FIRST PLACE for the K-2 category.  A representative from Senator Boxer’s office presented Haley with a framed photograph of her poster, a package of wildflower seeds, and a Certificate from Senator Boxer.  Look for the article to be published in the Sierra Sun soon.

CREW NEWS:

Upcoming Fieldwork:  Our crew will visit the Truckee Donner Public Utilities Department on Thursday, April 26th.  We will walk over to the PUD and tour the facility and learn how to conserve energy.  If you would like to join us, please let me know.

Overnight Fieldwork:  Our crew is in the preliminary stages of planning and organizing our Spring overnight fieldwork adventure to Iberdrola Renewables, a working wind farm, in Birds Landing, CA.  The tentative dates are set for Thursday and Friday, May 31 – June 1.  We will tour the wind farm and posssibly visit the Western Railroad Museum, which has a rail line that runs through the wind farm property.  It will be a great culmination to a fantastic year.  On our way back to Truckee, we will visit Sacramento and meet Senator Boxer to look at Haley’s Earth Day Poster hanging in her office.

Book Orders:  April Book Orders came home in your child’s Homework folder today.  These orders are due next Friday, April 27.  Remember, you can always order your books online, which in turn earns books for our classroom library.

Swimming:  Swimming Lessons for our crew begin on Monday, April 30th.  Please remember to have your child wear their swim suit to school under their clothes.  They need to pack a towel and a change of clothes if they want to wear something else after swimming.

Original Artwork:  Student artwork has been sent home and orders for Original Artwork products are due this FRIDAY, APRIL 20th.  Order now for Mother’s Day gifts.  Grandma’s love getting gifts with beautiful artwork from their grandchildren.  Don’t wait.  Order today.
