Hi all,

Wow, two early snow days. Hmmm… what does this say about winter? Beautiful outside, though.

Some general info on Snow Days:

  • We have 3 built into the schedule as “free” days

  • Any snow days over 3 and we will ask all students to complete Independent Study (these will be provided as packets). This allows us to have a fixed last day of school (June 14) instead of tacking on extra days at the end of the year.

  • Completing the Independent Study is important both academically (keeping all students’ brains activated) and financially (if you recall, we are funded only when students are at school or complete Independent Study).

Last week’s Goal Setting Conferences went very well; thanks for all your participation. Some things we learned to pass on to parents:

  • If set up by your child’s teacher, please be checking on-line student and class information

  • Please help provide your children with homework time, space, and help as needed

  • Please read the Director’s Notes (and yes, I understand the irony of mentioning that in the Director’s Notes 🙂

Other info to share:

  • Wednesday, Oct 24 is a Minimum Day

  • On Thurs, Nov 8 from 6-7:30 pm we are offering a parent workshop, Expeditionary Learning 101, to provide attendees with more information on our program model and students’ classroom experiences. More information to follow (workshop details and we are working on child care)

  • Dia de los Meurtos Celebration at the downtown Community Rec Center, Nov 9 from 5-9 pm. SELS students will be performing, though the exact times are as yet unknown.

  • Tahoe Donner Ski Area has agreed to run an afternoon, weekday program (2-4 pm) one day per week for Kindergarten snowboarders. Monique Long is working to set this up. The program will go if there are at least 3 families interested. Please contact her for more information: moniquejustin@yahoo.com

Thanks,

David
